Strategic Mining Opportunities between Argentina and the United StatesThe strategic importance of Argentina’s mining sector and its potential to strengthen economic ties with the United States took center stage during the webinar “Strategic Mining Opportunities between Argentina and the United States”, hosted by the Argentina-Texas Chamber of Commerce (ATCC) in partnership with the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center. With more than 150 participants, the conversation brought together leading voices from the mining, investment, government, and energy sectors to explore the opportunities emerging around critical minerals, lithium, copper, rare earths, investment, technology, and sustainable mining. The discussion highlighted Argentina’s significant mining potential. The country currently has 327 identified mining projects and 28 operating mines, while 70% of its territory with mining potential remains unexplored. Lithium production is expanding rapidly, and a new generation of copper projects is expected to begin operations from 2027 onward. According to projections discussed during the event, Argentina’s mining exports could grow from USD 6 billion in 2025 to USD 41.7 billion by 2035. Beyond resources and production, speakers emphasized the strategic dimension of Argentina–U.S. cooperation. As global demand for critical minerals increases, diversifying supply chains has become increasingly important, creating opportunities for new investment, financing mechanisms, technological partnerships, and innovation. The conversation also underscored the importance of moving beyond extraction toward long-term industrial and technological partnerships. One of the ideas discussed was the potential to develop an innovation corridor connecting Texas with Argentina’s Northwest, fostering collaboration that extends across the broader mining value chain. The ATCC thanks Andrea Clabough, Ramón Escobar, Fernando J. Ciacera, and José Gustavo de Castro Alem for sharing their expertise, and Gabriela Aguilar for moderating the conversation. We also extend our appreciation to the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center for partnering with us to strengthen dialogue and identify new opportunities for collaboration between Argentina and the United States.
